Feedback & photos from recent workshops and 1-2-1's

My Birthday treat was a 1-2-1 day with Phil…what a great present that turned out to be! Having not had the confidence to go out on a 1-2-1 before, I was a touch apprehensive but needn’t have been. Phil is very easy-going, approachable for any questions and nothing is too much trouble. I learnt so much in one day and with Phil’s knowledge of the Lakes, also had the pleasure of visiting some great places in the area. I was delighted to get a “killer pic” which was miles ahead of what I could have achieved on my own. Thanks for a great day Phil, Andy Johnson

I had a excellent day whilst attending Phil's workshop at Landgale, and Side Pike
We met before dawn where we discussed what we wanted from the day, we moved to our first location where Phil began providing guidance, and advice on compositions, locations and the use of natural light, although the morning was clear and cold there was very little interest in the sky which restricted our opportunities.
We then moved on to our second location where Phil's eye for a composition was apparent. Despite the very strong winds Phil's enthusiasm never waned.
Always the optimist we moved in to our third location from where I got some great images.
Phil was always thinking ahead and we swiftly moved on to our elevated forth location from where composition and understanding of the available light were given.
Due to the constant strong winds we were unable to gain much height, but we retraced our tracks to finish up at Blea Tarn. Although the elements were really against us Phil talked us through several compositions and suggested locations.
The day was a very worthwhile experience which comes highly recommended.
Thank you for a very enjoyable and educational day

My father-in-law and I recently attended a 1 to 2 workshop around Ullswater and surrounding areas. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience with Phil and we’re already thinking about booking again for the autumn.
Phil’s knowledge of the area and tucked away scenic locations is great. His tuition and advice on compositions and workflow was fantastic and he taught us both a new way of seeing and capturing the landscape – in varying conditions too. We came away having learned different techniques with the camera and filters which looking back on our screens on our return home, has made a vast improvement.
Phil was very enthusiastic as were we, which made for a superb and most enjoyable day. We learned a lot and the day was fun with a relaxed atmosphere – only downside was it went past too quickly!
Highly recommended to anyone wanting to improve their photography.
Cheers Phil for a great day – see you in the autumn.

Many thanks for a really enjoyable and informative workshop. Your enthusiasm for and knowledge of landscape photography made for a very fruitful day for me in terms of improving my technique, with composition and use of long exposures being the areas which I learned most. We managed to cover a lot of locations over the day, I think six, but never felt rushed, having enough time to get good images and learn at each. You were very generous with your time, allowing good use of nice light at the end of the day. I was also particularly pleased with your demonstration of hard grad filters, which I think will make a big difference to my future images. You were also very aware of the level of experience demonstrated by workshop attendees and skilfully tailored your input and advice accordingly. I think that anyone from novice to experienced would benefit from your tuition given your local and location knowledge which was freely imparted

I recently attended one of Phil's superb one day Buttermere and Crummock Water workshops. My main focus for the day was to work on my composition and ability to 'see the image', and with Phil's help and encouragement I feel like I made a big step forward in this regard and came away with some images I am absolutely delighted with as well as having a lot of fun. I would happily recommend the workshop to anyone who is looking to improve their photography

I would like to express my thanks and gratitude for the 1 2 1 workshop held on the 20th May, the day was very enjoyable, informative with the 8 hours flying by. The workshop was delivered in a very friendly and approachable manner, with your advice on camera usage and image capturing techniques being greatly received. Your knowledge of locations around the lake district was a great assistance in securing some very good images throughout the day which showed your passion and enthusiasm to landscape photography. I would definitely recommend the 1 2 1 course as an ideal way to improve your camera knowledge and improving your understanding of long exposure techniques using ND and graduated filers. Thank you very much for a very fruitful and enjoyable workshop.

Phil is obviously passionate and very knowledgeable about landscape photography which easily comes across in his tutoring. I have further developed my knowledge on how to practically apply composition, exposure and manual focus to name but a few. We covered a variety of compositions across the day and I now feel more confident that I will be able to capture the images I want. Thank you Phil for a very enjoyable day.

I have just returned from a one day workshop with Phil at Ullswater. It was a brilliant day full of insights that will help me improve my landscape photography. Phil is very easy going and incredibly generous with both his time and his knowledge. I can highly recommend him.

I’d just like to say a warm thanks to Phil Buckle for a great workshop yesterday.
My primary reason for doing the workshop, was that since no camera can deal with bright sky and bright foreground areas, I knew my efforts at landscapes needed to include ND and stopper filters, to hold back the brightness and bring out the missing detail.
Having fortunately bumped into Phil at Rydal Falls and subsequently viewed his online images and workshop offerings, I decided to go ahead with a booking.
The tuition was informal, delivered very clearly, and it’s fair to say we all had a good laugh during the day as we traded friendly banter.
Apart from answering all my questions on ND and stopper filters, I also picked up Phil’s valuable advice on using the cameras “live histogram” prior to capturing any image.
I’ve always been put off attending these type of workshops in the past, as they have appeared to be both very expensive and formal.
However, I can say this is certainly not the case with Phil’s workshops.
I am now able to confidently select the right filters for purchase, and cannot wait to get my hands on them, as I’ve already thought up a few opportunities where I can put my workshop into practice.
Highly recommended !

After what was a torturous journey due to Storm Desmond and skirting the flooding, we arrived at Tewet Tarn in one piece. We went through a range of techniques and I can honestly say that I have gained an enormous amount of knowledge, especially in the use of filters. Considering I ran out of battery half way through, the way in which Phil teaches meant that I was still able to carry on learning a great deal. Not only was Phil a great instructor, he is also extremely knowledgeable when it comes to landscape photography and not forgetting most importantly, we had a lot of fun throughout.

Thank you for an excellent day's photography, you left us in no doubt how you pay great attention to detail in composition, and getting it right in camera. It is little wonder that we see your stunning images on Facebook. I will try to use the tips and knowledge you gave us in future, you are a brilliant tutor with a lovely sense of humour, thank you once again. Best wishes, Christine.

Many thanks for your help yesterday on my 1-2-1 workshop, it was invaluable to have someone with the local knowledge who knew where the best places are at the right times of day.
I look forward to booking you again in the future.
Kevin
Thanks for that. Yes really enjoyed today, learnt a lot as my knowledge was basic. Got to know more about my camera too, so will put that to good use on Skye.
David
Phil, many thanks for a great workshop today. Weather was against us but I learned so much about composition and location. A very enjoyable day and you are a most patient tutor. Can highly recommend to anyone interested in landscape photography.

Thanks for a very interesting and informative day around Derwent Water. You answered all questions in a way which was informative and clear. Although the light was not perfect you showed us how to make the best of poor light. You have a great knowledge of all the best places in the lake district and how to get the best out of each location. Your Workshops are excellent for both experienced photographers like me and amateurs who are just starting on thier photography journey as you treat everyone as individuals and work to each persons needs and abilities.
